No Gloss Just Matt is the blog of Cllr Matthew McDermott.

 

Matthew McDermott is 24 years old and is currently the SDLP’s youngest political representative, serving on Lisburn City Council, representing the people of Dunmurry Cross.

 

He was educated at St. Kieran’s Primary School in Poleglass, St. Colm’s High School, Twinbrook, Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education (now BMC), and Queen’s University Belfast and has a young family, with a five year old son, also called Matthew.

 

He has lived in west Belfast his entire life and currently works for SDLP west Belfast MLA Alex Attwood as his parliamentary assistant.

 

Matthew is Secretary of the Association of SDLP Councillors, sits on the party’s Executive Committee and sits on the Executive Committee of SDLP Youth.

 

Within the community he serves on a number of boards including Cloona Oasis Centre, Colin Glen Trust and Colin Neighbourhood Partnership. He is also a Board of Governor at St. Kieran’s PS, Poleglass and Oakwood Integrated PS, Dunmurry.

 

Matthew sits on the Planning and Environmental Services Committees on Lisburn City Council and the Lisburn District Policing Partnership.

 

Politically his interests are policing, justice, with a focus on youth justice, environmental issues and community development.

 

Outside of politics his interests are reading, running and spending time with his family.

 

This blog will primarily be used to cast an honest and observant eye over the political goings on in west Belfast, interesting and relevant goings on at the Assembly, council business and of course party business, and Matthew’s view of it all.
